This will be the highest rate of interest for EPF subscribersinthelastthreeyears and comes ahead of the Lok Sabha elections. After maintaining the interest rate at 8.5 per cent in 201920 and 2020-21, the EPFO had cut it in 2021-22 to 8.1 per cent, the lowest in four decades. It hiked it marginally to 8.15 per cent in 2022-23, and further to 8.25 per cent for the current financial year. The Ministry of Labour and Employment will now send the interestraterecommendationof 8.25 per cent for 2023-24 to the Ministry of Finance for ratification.Aftertheministry'sconsent, theEPFOwouldcredittherateof E E X P L A I NE D MUMBAI,LATECITY Record income, ● highersurplus THE HIGHER 8.25% interest rate for this year is mainly because EPFO expects to retain a higher surplus.
