The case was lodged against Varadarajan and Foundation for Independent Journalism, which runs the portal, under Section 152 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which deals with acts “endangering sovereignty, unity and integrity of India”. The FIR was registered after The Wire carried a report on June 29, headlined ‘IAF lost fighter jets to Pak because of political leadership’s constraints’: Indian defence attache.
